Frequently asked
Does Fortinet NSE 8 have a written exam?
Not for initial certification: the 2026 format is practical-only, consisting of a Core practical module plus one Elective practical module. A written exam (NSE8_813) exists only as a recertification path and is available until January 31, 2027.
How much does Fortinet NSE 8 cost?
Fortinet's published price list sets NSE 8 practical exams at $800 each, and two practicals are required, for $1,600 total. The NSE8_813 recertification exam costs $400.
What replaced the Fortinet FCX certification?
Fortinet retired the FCX on July 15, 2026 and restored the numbered NSE program; FCX maps to NSE 8, with issue and expiration dates carried over. Existing holders keep their credential until it expires.
How long is NSE 8 valid?
2 years, down from 3 under the previous program. Renew with 200 recertification points per cycle while holding a valid NSE 7, or via the NSE8_813 recertification exam until January 31, 2027. Passing an NSE 8 practical also renews all active NSE 1-7 certifications.
